Carey Lakes Loop:
    Here is a "Topo/Image Map", with approx. route I took. Hike around the upper Carey lakes open meadows, up over the Col to rocky ridges with excellent views of Strathcona Parks Aureole Icefields. Then back down the south ridge to middle lake.

Click - 'Yellow star' to veiw photo from that approx. location, Click Green triangle to view panorama. Some route finding is required to gain access to upper areas. Marked trail to middle lake only, after that your on you're own.

How to get there??     From Port Alberni, drive to the end of Beaver Creek and head up the Valley Link Hwy towards Comox Lake "which now is a rough gravel road for the most of it". Turn left at Km20 Col-Main Line, just before the bridge crossing the Cruickshank River, drive upstream to Km10 Cruickshank-Main, then turn left on BR-80 drive up a very long steep hill 4x4 needed to Km 6, Take a left at fork then about 100 meters along you will see a small pulloff on left side. Park here.

Depending on your abilities or you're time schedule, the route can be done in 4 to 8hrs. My preference is getting up real early, drive to the trail head, and start hiking just before sunrise. This way I can take full advantage of the cool... alpine mornings and good light for taking pictures.
